President Susan's Letter .     Please Read

soroptimistsThis is where President Susan's letter usually is.  However your editor has preempted the space due to the fact that I do not have time to get a Scoup out at the regular time.  I will be in the hospital for three days starting Monday.  They are going to hopefully  reset my heart.  I do not know exactly what the future holds if they are not successful.  Therefore I am making sure that everything is done.  Below is a list of things that President Susan will have on her agenda sometime in the future.

  • A Slate of Officers.  The officers currently in office will be done on December 31st.

  • Women Honoring Women.  This was voted in at the last meeting

  • Cathy's Plan to do Financial Seminars

  • Our Service Funds

  • Woman Opportunity Award

  • THE BEST FOR WOMEN

Below you will find our Calendar, Lists of our Officers, Committees and Members, Some Committee Reports, Birthdays and other Current Announcements.

The Minutes were done by Betsi at the last meeting. She will either email them to you or read them at the next meeting.

The treasurer's report will be provided by Linda when she is able.

SIA is pleased to announce a new collaboration!

Soroptimist International of the Americas has partnered with Soroptimist International of Europe (SIE) to increase the scope and impact of the Soroptimist Disaster Grants. Soroptimist Disaster Grants seek to meet the special needs of women and girls before, during and after disasters. This new partnered-program builds on the success each federation has had with their own disaster grant programs and through prior partnered-projects addressing specific disasters in Kenya, Haiti and Chile. By working together, SIA and SIE can increase awareness about the ways women and girls disproportionately suffer from disasters, as well as the impact of the grants.

Each federation will maintain separate disaster funds, but applications for grants will be reviewed by both federations and impact will be tracked and reported jointly. Applications for grants and donations from clubs in SIA will continue to be submitted to SIA headquarters. We are looking forward to this new venture with our Soroptimist partners from the European federation.

Coming Soon: SIA and SIE are also partnering on Soroptimist Project Matching, matching resources between clubs—those that need assistance (funds, goods and services, or hands-on assistance) with a local project and those able to assist. It will enable Soroptimist clubs to work together to support the outstanding and sustainable work of other clubs, regardless of federation affiliation.

Sincerely,

SIA Headquarters

A little bit of FUN!!!!
A treat
and

a joke.
(My husband sent me this joke.  I couldn't stop laughing.  I would feel the same way.)

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD.

MY NAME IS ALICE , AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST.

I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA ON THE WALL, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME. SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 30-ODD YEARS AGO.

COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL .

'YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED, 'IN 1975. WHY DO YOU ASK?'

YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!', I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED FACED,

FAT-ASSED,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT

SON-OF-A-BITCH

ASKED,

'WHAT DID YOU TEACH???

Once in awhile it is okay to just forget all the reasons why not and just go for the delicious reasons why.
